Lexie Mae Thomas, affectionately know as "Mump" to some and "Sexy Lexie" to others was born April 1, 1941 in Statesboro, GA. Born to the late Ornie Burke, Sr. and the late Maggie Bell Warren-Burke who preceded her in death at the age of four. After passof Maggie of her birth mother Maggie Bell Warren-Burke, Ornie met then married Ruby Ruffin-Burke who loved, cared and raised Lexie and her brothers as her own.
Educated in the Bulloch ounty School System to finally complete her nursing studies in Wilmington, Delaware, Lexie was employeed as a Nurses Assistant with St. Francis Hospital for twenty-nine years. Upon returning to Georgia to care for her aging parents, Lexie continued employment as a home health Aide with CareSouth Home Health Care; then finally retiring later from the Huddle House of Millen, Georgia.
Finding the Lord and accepting His at an early age, Lexie served as an Usher, deconess, a member of the welcoming committee and a member of the The Voices of Inspiration Choir with First Baptist Church and also a member of the Unity Community Choirs.
Lexie has the smile of an Angel and her laugh is so infectious that people were drawn to her which made her so easy and very much loved. Lexie loved her four children, in which she nurtured and protected as they grew to become the adults they are today. When her grandchildren came along, she loved them all without reservation equally…
Lexie leaves to cherish her memories to her children: James (Pam) Glandton & Bobby Cummings of Wilmington, DE, Steven Cummings of Claxton, GA, and the only girl of the nest, Tomika (Jeff) Reaves of Martinez, GA; her grandchildren, Jared, Monet', Steven, Ebony, Brittany, Stephanie, Dominique, Jarren, Dondre' Renisha, Jj'La, Kalexicia, and Larry; her siblings Ornie (Gail) Burke, Jr., Robert (Mary Alice) Burke, both of Wilmington, DE and a host of other loving relatives, acquaintances and special friends.
Lexie loved her Church and her Church Family, The First Baptist Church of Millen, Georgia.
