Avon Sims, a beloved son, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away on May 24, 2026, in Augusta, Georgia. Born on February 21, 1961, in Millen, Georgia, Mr. Sims was nurtured by his parents, Arthur Sims, Sr. and Katherine Smith Sims. His life was marked by a quick wit and a contagious sense of humor, traits that made him a cherished presence among family, friends, and community.
Throughout his working years, Avon was known for his dedication and skill, particularly evident in his contributions to construction projects around Millen, including his time at the Mobile Home factory. Later, he relocated to Augusta, where he continued his work in construction until health issues necessitated his retirement.
Beyond his professional life, Avon was a devoted family man. He is lovingly remembered by his three children, Natasha, Raphael, and Sylvia Sims; four grandchildren who brought joy to his later years; and his three siblings, Larry Sims (and his wife Michelle), Adam Sims, and Betty Shingleton. His family, along with numerous other relatives and friends, will hold close the memory of a man whose laughter and joyful spirit greatly enriched their lives.
Mr. Sims’s warmth, humor, and love will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy endures in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
