Dexter Donyah Hagins was born January 19, 1974, in Augusta, GA to Nelva Jean Hagins and the late Donnell Washington. A born native of Millen, GA.
His personality and his smile would win anyone over.
Being the first grandchild that was reared by his grandmother, who he affectionately called "Handberry" and his Aunt Clara, who he called "Auntie," was the apple of their eye; you might even say he was a little bit spoiled, but in a loving way. He had a unique way of making you fall in love with him every time you looked into those kind brown eyes and saw that affectionate smile. Always polite and very well-mannered.
Dexter better known to many as "Stanka," was a graduate of Jenkins County High School in the Class of 1992; after high school he went straight into the work force. Working in various places but his last employment was Supervisor at Claxton Poultry before his health began to fail.
Stanka was very enjoyable to be around, some might say the life of the party; but latter years he became more subtle, a home body, watching tv in his room, listening to music on his stereo; finding friends on Facebook and keeping up with the latest via facetime or messenger. He was a class act in his own way, in other words, a very sharp and tailored dresser, cool in every sense of the word, shy to a point but always made his point clear and precise.
He joined and remained a member of the First Baptist Church until his passing.
He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, but football overall was his game. He also had a love for watching old movies, old television shows, with Hallmark being his soft spot. Another love of his was his white Silverado truck, cleaned and spotless, also his Husqvarna lawn mower, a clean well-manicured lawn was his ultimate goal. He loved listening to gospel music and old R & B. He learned to watch soap operas from days of being home. He could tell you all the happenings in all the daytime dramas.
Dexter's latter years were good, and he found the happiness he had been looking for but it came with a price, he fought a good fight for happiness, but through it all he was loved beyond measure; a beautiful soul now resting with the Father in Heaven.
He was preceded in death by his father, Donnell Washington, brother Donnell Washington, Jr., maternal grandmother, Frances C. Handberry and cousin, Shannon Mikel.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his loving and devoted mother, Nelva Jean Hagins; son & daughter-in-law, Jamartae & Brandy Hagins, two grandsons, Jamartae, Jr. & Waylen Hagins; sister, Crystal (Murdock) Harden, brother, Carey (Lakesia) Watkins, Jr.; his beloved Aunts & uncles, Clara Ford, Franklin (Melba) Haggins, Gloria Washington, Annette (Darryl) Williams, Lois Washington, and John (Vanessa) Washington; his paternal grandmother, Catherine Washington; special cousins, Charron Mikel, Jada Jackson and Adrene Jackson and a host of other loving cousins, relatives and a special god-sister, Bernice Kirkland, and a special childhood friend, Anthony James Sea and a host of other loving family and friends. May God Rest His Soul.
