Mother Delores N. Burns, 84, Mother of the Greater New Jerusalem Church of God In Christ, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 13, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on September 24, 1938, in Springfield, GA. She was the daughter of the late Willie Williams & Edna Rhett Williams.
She was educated in the Jenkins County School System. Mother Burns joined Greater New Jerusalem C.O.G.I.C. under the leadership of Elder Theo Jackson; she served faithfully under his leadership; later a new leader was appointed, and continually served under Pastor Roland Johnson as Mother of the Church for forty plus years. Mother Burns had a very humble spirit. She loved Sunday School and Bible Band; she worked in whatever capacity she could; always willing to lend a helping hand. Mother Burns loved her Pastor and the men and women of God.
She was united in holy matrimony to the late Mr. Ernest Lee Burns on January 9, 1957; he left a legacy of memories for her to cherish.
Two sons and siblings preceded her in death, Billy Joe and Donald Davis, Lloyd Williams, Willie Williams, Virginia Lee Williams, Elnora Nappier and Al Williams.
She leaves to cherish her memories, Yvonne (Murphy) Brown, Shalimar, FL, Terry Burns, Connie (Donnie) Watson, Hephzibah, GA, Ronald Grace, Diane Davis, and Malisa Davis, of Jesup, GA, Elvis Davis, Atlanta, GA, Naomie (Michael) Ekemode, Altamonte Springs, Florida, and Angela Davis, Millen, GA; she also leaves to cherish her memories, three sisters, Mary Catherine, Florida, Opal Baker & Ann Williams, Fitzgerald, GA; two brothers, Benjamin Williams, and Lenard Williams of Fitzgerald, GA; one aunt, Ernestine Wright, North Carolina; twenty-eight grandchildren and a host of great grand and great-great grands, nieces, nephew, cousins and friends.
