Sam was born in Millen, GA to the late Willie & Elease Sherrod on February 2, 1954. As a child, Sam attended school in Jenkins County. He played football for Jenkins County High School, Sam enlisted in the United States Navy where he served twelve years; after a well deserved Honorable Discharge he took a job with Remington Industrial, later renamed Metal Industries Home Products until he became disabled, but that didn't stop him. He was always doing something productive, whether it was taking care of someone's lawn or taking care of his own lawn.
Sam loved to fish, when he wasn't working, he was either fishing or watching sports, he loved all sports, high school basketball, football, you name it, he loved it. He had a love of people, many friends who always employed his presence. His kindness will always be in the heart of those who knew him.
He was preceded by his parents, Willie & Elease Sherrod, two brothers, Willie Sherrod (Parlo), Jr. and Willie Sherrod (BB) Jr.
He leaves to cherish loving memories to his children, Darrius (Aretha) Sherrod & Chickeena (Willie) Shingleton; siblings, Mary Julia Plair, Allen, TX, Ruth (Robert) Herrington, Millen, GA, Mildred (Jerry) Lake, Millen, GA, Al Sherrod, Augusta, GA, Timmy Sherrod, Augusta, GA, James Sherrod, Waynesboro, GA, Katrina Sherrod, Millen, GA; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, Lois Sherrod, Augusta, GA & Dorothy Sherrod, Warner Robins, GA, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and two dear friends, Eugene (Buddy) Sapp & Larry Cobb.
